Jane Eyre is set in the 1760s through the 1820s. The story follows Jane as she passes through childhood into womanhood. It follows her though anger, hope, sadness, and love. It is through her eyes that you look when you read this book, it is through her mind that you think; when her eyes fill with tears, so will yours. The story is of love, and all its complications, torments, and confusion. It is also about the true happiness that love is capable of bringing into a person's life.

The main character of this book is a girl named Jane Eyre. Throughout her travels Jane meets many people who have an effect on her life, but I will only be talking about a select few: Mrs. Reed, Adèle, Mr. Rochester, and Mr. St. John. Mrs. Reed is Jane's aunt through marriage. She is who Jane lived with until she was 10 years of age and was sent to live in a boarding school called Lowood Institute. Adèle is Jane's first student after she becomes a governess. Mr. Rochester is Jane's employer and friend while she is the governess of Adèle. Mr. St. John is Jane's friend. He is also a preacher/missionary, and throroughly devoted to Christianity.

The main theme of this book is love, decorated in it's roses as well as it's thorns. I think the author wants us to believe that true love is real, and that although it is not always easy, it will, in the end, be your savior, and what, when you look back on your life, you will recognize as the reason your life was not only worth living, but enjoyable and satisfying.

My opinion of this book is that it is a well written, captivating book that will keep you on your toes, so to speak, throughout the whole story. I recommend this book to ages 14 and up. Jane Eyre has a few parts that younger children might find frightening, tedious, or confusing. There are also some thoughts and feelings that Jane Eyre has that would be uncomprehendable and inappropriate for young children. This book is a must read.7 stars!
